FAQs

  • To schedule a free, 20-minute consultation, you can email me at, drdeacon@dmv-cbt.com , or call me at, 703-239-3215. Alternatively, you can send a message via my contact page.

  • During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to describe what concerns are bringing you to therapy and what you hope to achieve through the therapy process. I will also take time to describe my approach to therapy and how it can support you in addressing your concerns. This time will allow us both to assess and determine whether we are a good match moving forward.

  • Therapy sessions look different based on your concerns and goals for therapy. I emphasize a strengths-based approach to therapy and tailor my therapy sessions according to the individual needs of the patient. At the same time, I take an active approach to therapy, encouraging participation in various exercises both during our sessions and at home in between sessions. For children and adolescents, parents are more heavily involved in the beginning of treatment in order to provide additional information during the assessment phase. As treatment advances, parents may be invited to participate in the final 5-10 minutes of sessions to discuss their child's progress and how they can support skill implementation at home.

  • Therapy sessions are generally 45-50 minutes in length. Longer sessions may be suggested if determined necessary to meet your treatment needs.

  • Weekly sessions are recommended for the first 6-8 weeks of therapy in order to build rapport, momentum, and consistency. In some cases, longer and more frequent sessions may be required depending on symptom severity and your personal goals. As symptoms begin to improve and you become more confident, therapy sessions will become less frequent so that you have the opportunity to practice implementing skills on your own and develop confidence in acting as your own therapist.

  • The answer to this depends on a number of factors, including your diagnosis, symptom severity and duration, life events and stressors, availability of support system, and time devoted to treatment, to name a few. A fairly realistic estimate of treatment length is 15-20 sessions, with some individuals requiring more and some requiring less.

  • I am not licensed to prescribe medication; however, I can provide you with referrals for physicians who are able to do so. I will also work collaboratively with your prescribing physician, with your consent, in order to best support you.

  • I offer both in-person and virtual appointments. Virtual appointments are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant video platform. The suitability of virtual services for children under 12 will be evaluated during the assessment stage. Typically, I suggest in-person sessions for children and adolescents.
