Parenting Support

Parenting is a journey; one that is incredibly fulfilling and simultaneously challenging and overwhelming. One of the toughest hurdles for parents to navigate is when their child faces anxiety. An anxious child can amplify the stress of parenting, as children struggling with anxiety require additional understanding, support, and guidance as they grow and develop. Using a parent-based treatment program called SPACE (Supportive Parenting of Anxious Childhood Emotions), I strive to help parents gain insights into their child's anxiety, learn effective communication strategies, and acquire tools to create a nurturing environment that fosters resilience and emotional well-being.

SPACE

SPACE offers a structured and evidence-based approach to helping parents change their own behavior so that they can effectively respond to their child’s anxiety. SPACE directly aims to reduce parental or family accommodating behaviors, which include any behaviors or routines parents engage in that are intended to assist their child in avoiding or alleviating emotional distress related to anxiety. By reducing accommodations and providing appropriate support, parents will help their child gain confidence in their ability to confront and manage their own anxiety.

Through the SPACE program, I assist parents in:

  1. Identifying and reducing accommodating behaviors in a systematic manner.

  2. Learning ways of handling child’s reactions to anxiety and change.

  3. Gaining confidence in parenting an anxious child.
